So I was skimming through the New York Times today and came across another article in relation to Toxins in your body - “Flush Those Toxins! Eh, Not So Fast.” In my opinion, I think it’s bogus. Toxins exist, yes, and they do get into your body. But from what I have read elsewhere it seems as if our kidney, liver, and other components of our digestive system do a great job removing them themselves. All the “results” that I ever hear people claim from these detoxifying diets are an increase in energy and just “feeling” better. My explanation – Placebo. It also seems obvious that when you drink a mixture of water, lemon juice, cayanne pepper and maple syrup and avoiding fast food, fatty foods, oils, then no shi*t are you going to lose weight. I suppose if it makes one feel better then who am I to say not to do it as long as it has no adverse negative side effects – which I think as science studies these fad diets more we may find some. I also have to admit, I did become a sucker and try a very small detox diet. This consisted of drinking two glasses juice with Psyllium mixed in a day. All this did was make my stomach grumble and complain. Did I feel any different, no. But I did “feel” like I was doing something healthy so therefore I noticed I wanted to trick myself into actually thinking I was healthier. Anyways, I just felt like putting in my two cents.
